An appeal for businesses to help save the Wisbech Christmas lights switch-on has been successful.

Wisbech Town Council called for sponsors to support the event and say it has received great backing from local businesses.

"All the money pledged will be used to make the event bigger and better than ever," said a spokesperson for the council.

The event, which runs from 3pm-6pm on Sunday December 1, will include a snow park and aerial acrobats.

There will be live festive entertainment from Nine Lives Theatre Company, with support from other organisations.

Visitors will have a chance to see Father Christmas, who will be handing out sweets to children, while there will be free mince pies, donated by local supermarkets, for adults to enjoy.

"Businesses who have sponsored the event will enjoy a number of benefits, including a personal letter of thanks or a visit from the mayor or deputy mayor," added the council spokesperson.

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who has offered sponsorship, it means that we can make the event better than ever and, in turn, this helps local businesses to promote themselves to thousands of people who are expected to attend.

"We always strive to do something different to make it fresh for those families who come along.
