Yet another driver has become stuck and in need of a rescue while attempting to cross "Britain's most flooded road".

The Nissan 4x4 was the latest car to be submerged in the flood water covering the A1101 Welney Wash in west Norfolk.

The motorist attempted the crossing shortly after 9pm on Wednesday with three fire crews being called out to help shortly after.

At the time the water levels on the road were more than 9.7 ft deep in its worst parts.

Fire crews were at the scene for more than an hour and a half.

After difficulties reaching the scene due to high waters on the Norfolk side, the rescue was completed by the Cambridgeshire crew from Littleport.

This is the second car to become stuck within a week after another driver had a lucky escape last Thursday.

The stretch of road became infamous over last year's winter period after being submerged underwater for a record 12 weeks, sending locals on a lengthy 22-mile diversion.
