A1101 Wash Road in Welney floods as heavy rain continues

The Environment Agency say there are around five inches of water on the A1101 Wash Road in Welney this morning. 

River levels are rising and due to the uneven surface of the roads, water may be deeper in places.

The agency is liaising with Norfolk Highways, which will decide whether to close the roads.

The water depth on the Wash Road (Image: Welney Flood Watch) A flood alert remains in place for the Hundred Foot Washes area - which includes Welney - with locals told to "be prepared" as flooding is likely. 

A Met Office warning for heavy rain also also been issued until 3am tomorrow.

A spokesman for Welney Flood Watch said: "River levels at Welney have risen overnight as expected and currently 8.2ft so well over the trigger.

"There is water flowing very fast across the road in several places now a lot of road is covered.

"Up to eight inches in the wave line which is almost out to the centre line at the deeper part, around two to three inches on the shallower heading towards Welney side."

Half barriers and closed signs have been deployed and drivers are advised to find another route if they are not sure on the water depth.
