A local friendship group in Wisbech is set to boost energy levels this September with special activities celebrating Friendship Month.
Capital of the Fens Oddfellows, a non-profit group comprising of mainly older adults, is inviting Wisbech residents to join in their unique series of 'frenergy' events - a term coined for the energy you get from friendship.
Social Organiser for Capital of the Fens Oddfellows, Tina Day-Coombes, said: “We know it all sounds a bit playful, but ‘frenergy’ – the unique energy you get from friendship – is real."
These events are an ideal opportunity to meet new people, foster friendships, and enjoy the benefits of amicable company.
Tina added: "These events are a perfect opportunity to top up your 'frenergy' levels, and to give some back, too.”
Three taster events will be held across the area, including events at Wisbech Rugby Club and Littleport Bowls Clubs.
Dr Veronica Lamarche, a friend of the Oddfellows and a psychologist, explained the concept of 'frenergy'. She said: “The energy boost we feel from spending time with friends is due in part to our thoughts and experiences being validated and understood."
She noted that something as simple as observing a kind action can generate a 'frenergy' buzz.
Tina then invited newcomers to join in, stating: “Newcomers are always welcome to join our friendly group, not just during Friendship Month.
