A man who attacked his partner while driving along a road at speed with their child in the car has been jailed.
Peejay Carlyle-Parker, 36, was driving from Manea to Wisbech with his partner and one-year-old child in the car when an argument ensued between the pair.
Carlyle-Parker became verbally abusive towards the victim, calling her names before reaching over to the passenger seat, slapping her in the face and hitting her head off the dashboard.
He continued to drive while attacking the victim, driving through a red light and causing the vehicle to swerve across the road towards oncoming traffic.
Dashcam footage later showed the victim trying to get out of the vehicle with the child, but Carlyle-Parker dragged her back by her hair and continued his assault.
The victim’s father called police when the pair arrived home.
Carlyle-Parker, from Wisbech, later pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, actual bodily harm and dangerous driving.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and banned from driving for a further 18 months at Peterborough Crown Court on July 11.
Detective Constable Rhian Batterham-Jones, who investigated, said: “Carlyle-Parker’s horrific attack on the victim in front of their child was truly abhorrent and he put all their lives and the lives of other road users at risk.
“I am glad justice has been done today and hope this can provide the victim and her family with some comfort.
