Wisbech & Fenland Museum has received a £3,000 boost thanks to a major civil engineering firm.
Barhale’s one-off gift to the museum's appeal fund will be used towards replacing annual council funding of running costs due to end in April 2025.
Barhale is well-known in Wisbech, offering active apprenticeship and training and development programmes as well as supporting community initiatives.
It is hoped the firm’s donation will kick-start similar support from local and regional companies towards plugging the gap in the museum's finances.
Barhale chairman Dennis Curran said: “We take our role in the Wisbech community, which we very much feel part of, very seriously.
“We are pleased to make this donation to the Wisbech and Fenland Museum which not only provides a fascinating historical perspective on life across the region but also makes such an important contribution to the community today.”
Museum chairman Steve McGregor said: “Everyone at the museum is delighted to receive such generous support from a nationally well-known and established business.
“We are always keen to strengthen our links with other businesses local, regional, and national, and we hope that where Barhale has led others will follow. We welcome enquiries from companies to discuss how we can help each other.”
Museum trustee Russell Beal of Anglian Water added: “Anglian Water and its partners have supported a wide range of organisations in Wisbech over the years as part of their close working with Business in the Community.
“Barhale's offer to become a key sponsor at the museum is absolutely fantastic news.”
