A shoplifter in Wisbech who continually targeted a supermarket has been ordered to pay compensation.
On March 20, Julius Jiesmantas, 41, entered Tesco Extra in Cromwell Road, Wisbech, where he picked up four bottles of Jack Daniels worth a total of £140 and left the shop without paying.
He returned to the shop three times between the March 23 and March 26, where he stole five bottles of Jack Daniels, four bottles of vodka, two bottles of Cardhu Whiskey, and a bottle of gin worth a total of £437.
He was arrested on April 2 after he was detained by shop security who caught him trying to steal two bottles of Jack Daniels and a bottle of gin worth £101.50.
Jiesmantas, of Acacia Avenue, Wisbech, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (3 April), where he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, after admitting to five counts of theft from a shop.
He has also been ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and pay £542 in compensation to Tesco.
PC Conor Mallen, who investigated, said: “Retail crime, especially shoplifting, is something that we are constantly tackling, but it wouldn’t be possible without the reporting from businesses.
“I would like to encourage the businesses in the area to continue reporting these incidents to us, regardless of the value of the items, as it helps us identify offenders and apply for Criminal Behaviour Orders that give us greater powers when it comes to dealing with prolific offenders.”
