Plans to turn a four-bedroom property into a house of multiple occupation (HMO) for up to eight people have been turned down.

Fenland council's planning committee were recommended to approve proposals from Tom Barrett to convert the house on Queens Road, Wisbech.

But objectors included the Wisbech Society, who said: "There are concerns over the number of residents proposed in this change of use.

"The loss of a front garden to parking will have an impact on the character of this residential street of family houses with traditional gardens."

Local councillors Samantha Hoy and Steve Tierney objected, describing the scheme as "overdevelopment".

Some 49 objections were also received from people living around the property - some of who posted multiple comments on the council's planning portal.

Grounds included lack of on-street parking and the loss of a family home.

In its refusal notice, the council said the noise and disturbance from the development would "adversely affect the amenity of existing residents", while the lack of on-site parking would cause "highway safety issues".
