A supermarket is set to reopen this afternoon after a huge fire ripped through the building over the weekend. 

Sainsbury's, at the Hardwick Industrial Estate in King's Lynn, closed after a blaze on Saturday (September 16). 

Fire crews from Lynn, Downham Market, Sandringham, Wisbech, Long Sutton, Terrington, Hunstanton and Massingham spent around three hours battling the fire at the store.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Our King's Lynn Hardwick store was closed on Saturday evening due to a fire.

"Thankfully no customers or colleagues were injured and the store is due to reopen this afternoon.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

A member of the public raised the alarm after they saw smoke and flames coming from the building.

Group manager David Copeland, who was in charge of the fire operation, said: "Behind the wood cladding is a timber frame with insulation. The fire had spread behind the timber cladding and had ignited the insulation.

"The crews had to remove the timber cladding to get to the seat of the fire to make sure it had not spread even further.

"It was very arduous but our crews did an exceptional job."
