An activities co-ordinator at a care home near Wisbech has become a ‘super-hair-o’ after she had an incredible 22 inches of hair cut off for charity.
Emily Jackson, from Hickathrift House Care Home in Marshland St James, braved the shave in aid of The Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to young people and children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments or other conditions such as alopecia.
Residents, family, friends and staff came to support and cheer on Emily as she had her hair chopped in the gardens of Hickathrift House.
Everyone joined in with a ‘funky hair/hat day’ to support the charity event.
Resident ambassador, Barrie, took to hairdressing and cut a ponytail off for the charity, as well as general manager Paula Colman, Emily’s mum Tracy Middleton, and activity lead Kat Colangelo.
Then hairdresser ‘Hair by Mary Bush’ took over and worked her magic creating Emily’s new and shorter style.
Emily said: “We all take our hair for granted, so it was a real pleasure to support this amazing charity and send my hair off to be made into a wig which will change someone’s life.
“It was a beautiful afternoon and it was wonderful to get the residents involved.
“The residents and the staff at Hickathrift were behind me all the way along with family and friends.
“It’s for such an important cause, I’m delighted to be able to do my bit to raise further awareness and an incredible amount of money for the charity.
“Thank you to all who donated and supported me on the run-up and on the day, it means a lot.”
Over £650 was raised by completing the charity chop, which has been donated to The Little Princess Trust UK.
