Wisbech RUFC has announced that Jack Maklin will continue as the club's 1st XV captain for the upcoming 2023/24 rugby season.
The fly-half, who can also cover scrum-half, was first handed the captain's armband for the 2022/23 season and has been a vital and inspirational figure for the 1st XV for a number of years.
The experienced 31-year-old had an impressive run as captain, which saw the 1st XV crowned the Counties 2 Eastern Counties 2022/23 champions.
Jack contributed 141 points making him the top point scorer for the season.
The 1st XV will play in the Counties 1 Eastern Counties this season, competing at the highest league level the club has ever played.
Director of Rugby Leonard Veenendaal said, "Jack is the obvious choice, and it's a well-deserved appointment.
"We are fortunate to have several strong leaders in our squad who rallied behind Jack which proved to be invaluable as we went on to win the league.
"Jack has been a senior player and part of the leadership group for several years; he galvanizes the group, is a tough, no-nonsense leader, and is well aware of what part he plays within the club's progression.
"He's hugely respected by all of his teammates and coaches alike, he says the right things at the right time but doesn't say too much, he leads by example, and that's what we want from a leader.
"I am sure I speak on behalf of the whole club in wishing Jack and the squad all the best for the exciting season ahead."
A true club man, Malkin has played at Wisbech RUFC since the age of SINCE and played through the age groups before making his senior 1st XV debut at 16.
Malkin said: "I feel very privileged and honoured to be asked again to captain the 1st XV of such a fantastic club and be among the illustrious names who have done it before.
"I love having my young family pitch side on match days and looking forward to pre-season with the lads ahead of the 2023/24 season."
The senior squad will start pre-season on Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 1 with their first warm-up match against Peterborough when they come to Harecroft Lane on September 2 for a 3pm kick-off.
