A programme of free activities is being laid on in Wisbech Park this summer.
Events planned so far include:
· wild play sessions for families
· a community art project where benches around the bandstand will get a new look
· dance fitness classes
· kickboxing
· a Victorian themed theatre show and circus workshop to celebrate the park’s Victorian roots.
Wisbech Wild Play sessions for families
Groundwork will be hosting Wisbech Wild Play sessions for families with pre-school and primary school age children.
Sessions will include scavenger hunts, natural arts and crafts, exploring nature, games and learning through play.
They take place 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm on:

· Thursday, July 27
· Tuesday, August 2
· Wednesday, August 9
· Wednesday, August 16
· Tuesday, August 22
· Wednesday, August 23
· Tuesday, August 29
· Wednesday, August 30
Afternoon sessions will be a repeat of morning activities. Activities on different dates may be the same as ones that have been held previously.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Blackfield Creatives ‘Art Takes a Seat’ project for all ages
Blackfield Creatives is running its 'Art Takes A Seat' project to create artworks on the benches around the Bandstand in Wisbech Park.
All ages can take part.
Sessions will take place 10am to 3pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Tuesday, August 8 to Wednesday, August 30.
Booking is not required. Please note, the sessions will not go ahead if it is raining.
The artwork will be sensitive to the conservation area and take its inspiration from nature. Although each bench will be different, a consistent theme will run throughout.

Wisbech Town Council dance fit, kickboxing events and more
Wisbech Town Council has organised a range of free activities with more to come. No need to book. Just turn up.
Dance fitness
Taya’s Dance and Fitness will deliver dance fit activities on Saturdays in July and August 1pm to 2pm for ages six to 14 and 2.30pm to 3.30pm for ages 15 years and above.
The classes run on Saturdays from July 22 to and including August 26. They will not be run on August 12.
Kickboxing
RKA Kickboxing will deliver kickboxing sessions on Saturday 12, 19 and 26, August, 10am to 11am for under 15s, 11.30am to 12.30pm for those aged 15 and over.
Victorian theatre show
The Van Buren Victorian Wonders Show will be in Wisbech Park Saturday, August 27.
The show, which has been performed on TV, for royalty and around the world, is billed as for all the family and answers questions about magic.
There will be two 30-minute shows during the day and a 30-minute circus workshop.
The Groundwork, Blackfield Creatives and Wisbech Town Council activities have been funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Parks Fund following a successful bid by Fenland District Council. They’re being delivered in partnership with Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Parks Partnership.
Wisbech park play area is already undergoing a major upgrade, which is due to be open soon and building work has begun on a new pavilion.
A new bench is being installed on the southern section of the park near Wisbech Hospital and a water fountain is on its way near the toilet block.
The Splash Pad is open daily 10am to 5pm and landscaping of the area is planned for the end of the year.
Additional activities taking place in Wisbech Park this summer include WisBEACH Rock Festival, bandstand concerts, wellbeing walks, junior parkrun and A Stand In the Park.
Wisbech bandstand concerts
As previously, every year since 2018, Fenland District Council is once again giving financial support for concerts organised by the Friends of Wisbech Bandstand to host concerts in the bandstand.
They take place 2pm to 4.30pm as follows:
· July 30 Back Two and Gary Read
· August 20 Kill me Kate and Karaoke.
WisBEACH Rock Festival
The free WisBEACH Rock Festival, hosted by Wisbech Town Council, takes place 11am to 8pm, Sunday, August 6.
The park will be split into three areas.
The Main Stage area where there is a large stage, bar and food stalls.
The Beach Area where you will find a holiday vibe – steel drums, splash pad, real sandpit, donkey rides, crazy golf and fair rides
The Bandstand Area – A more relaxed feel with small, local acts. Here you will find loads of stalls to explore as well as an African Drumming Workshop and Poetry Slam.
Wellbeing Walks
Wisbech Mindful Walk leaves from Wisbech bandstand at 10am every Friday, returning around 11am.
Anyone is welcome to join and efforts are made to make it accessible to all abilities no matter the fitness level.

A 45-minute wellbeing walk also takes place on Thursdays, leaving the green outside St Peter and St Paul Parish Church at 2pm.
Junior parkrun
A junior parkrun of takes place every Sunday in the park at 9am. It’s 2k and for four to 14 year olds. See: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/wisbech-juniors/
