Wisbech Swimming Club had three swimmers competing in this year's Eastern Regional Championship which were held over two weekends in April and May.
The first weekend was held at the Sportspark in Norwich, and saw Madeline Rose competing in her first regional competition. She swam a personal best in the 50m backstroke, while Madison Hicks competed in the 200m freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 200m IM in which she managed a very respectable 12th place overall finish.
Three weeks later at the Luton sports village, Wisbech were back at the East Regional Championship, this time Esmai Smith and Madison Hicks were alongside each other in the 200m butterfly heats with Madison Hicks qualifying for the final and a 5th place overall finish.
Madison’s weekend wasn’t finished, competing in the 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m and 200m backstroke.
While events were unfolding in Luton, back in Cambridgeshire, Wisbech were back in JFL action at Huntingdon Leisure Centre against Peterborough A, St Neots and Thetford.
At the end of the gala, the team managed a total of 14 first place finishes, this includes two first places for Esmai Smith who had travelled straight back from her 200m butterfly in Luton.
The swimmers were in fine form achieving 34 personal best times and at the end of the event Wisbech came out in second place overall with a total of 177 points.
Wisbech Swimming Club is always on the lookout for new swimmers, and anyone interested in trialling is encouraged to contact the club’s chair, Tracy Loughlin, on wisbechsc.clubchair@gmail.com for more details.
