Otherlands and Welcome to Hinch Farm are this week’s adult and child book of the week.

Otherlands (adult book) - reviewed by Jacqui Howchin

Palaeobiologist Thomas Halliday takes readers on a dazzling tour across time to view astounding ancient landscapes from all seven continents.

Starting in Alaska 20,000 years ago, each chapter takes you back in time to finally arriving 500 million years ago in Australia.

He takes you on a journey to visit the birthplace of humanity, to the destruction of the asteroid and the rebirth of life that emerges again.

It is a wonderfully detailed record of all the flora and fauna from the beginning of time.

Halliday has a real gift for evoking a sense of place and atmosphere and tells the story of earth in a way that is fresh and new.

It is an immersive read that will fascinate the beginner but still give the expert something to ponder.

Welcome to Hinch Farm (child’s book) - reviewed by Hayley Ralls

The debut book from Instagram star Mrs Hinch tells the story of Ronnie, Lennie and Henry as they start their big adventure.

Their adventure though feels too big for them at times, as they pack up all their belongings ready to move house and leave their home.

They leave special memories behind and even their beautiful wendy house.

Their new home doesn’t feel like theirs and they decide to set off on another adventure together.

Beautifully illustrated by Hannah George, this is a reassuring story about how family and love is all you need to make a house feel like home and where you can begin to make new memories together.
