While the Wisbech under-7s travelled to Peterborough RFC, the under-9s, under-10s and under-11s/12s combined welcomed Peterborough Rugby Club to Harecroft road for the last mini rugby fixture of the 23-24 season.

Wisbech U9s welcomed 15 players from Peterborough for their final game of the season, and what season it has been!

Peterborough are an extremely well coached and disciplined team that proved for a pretty even competitive game. Both sides showing great defence and attacking play.

But also the support play while in attack was brilliant to see. The teams finished with a large game of five minutes a half with the teams from Wisbech and Peterborough mixed which the kids seemed to love.

This season has been our first contact season and every single player has progressed hugely. Not just individually but as a team and playing for each other and knowing the strengths each team mate can offer.

Coach Alec South said: “I’m extremely proud of the way the team has developed displaying all the attitudes that make rugby what it is.

A special 'thank you' to all the parents for supporting the children in all weather conditions ensuring we have a travelling fan base.”

Wisbech under 10s took on Peterborough in an end of season clash showcasing some wonderful rugby talent in a hard and fair game of rugby, where both squads should be proud of how they performed.

The Wisbech display was the perfect way to sign off a tremendously successful season where the player development through the season has been fantastic across the whole squad.

In attack William, Tommy, Emily and Bertie scored some great individual tries.

There was some tireless work put in throughout the game by Stanley, Wilson, Henry, Lawson and Brayden.

Wisbech continued to display their strong skill sets playing some their best rugby of the season.

There was some powerful runs with good offloads by Frankie and Archer who were tireless throughout.

In defence, the whole squad put in big tackles from start to end and denied Peterborough many scoring opportunities, with some dominant tackles from Jorja, Elodie and Noah.

Wisbech rucked well with Braxton and Joshua turning over lots of opposition ball, allowing the team to have plenty of possession and to score regularly despite the oppositions efforts. The perfect end to a fantastic season.

Wisbech U11s/U12s – the first 15 minutes was a very tight affair. Both sides showed that they had the potential to score and the Peterborough rucking was the more dynamic.

The home defence was stretched on several occasions, but the Wisbech tackling kept them in the game.

The game opened up in the next period of play. Wisbech improved at the rucks and lots of ground was made through off loading and strong running.

The play continued to be very evenly contested and each team scored 3 tries. The Wisbech team should be proud of their effort and determination throughout the morning. The attitude was always positive and the support for each other was great to see.

Wisbech Vets select XV welcome Corby side Stewarts & Lloyds RFC for the final match of the season at Harecroft Road on Saturday, April 27. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
